Application Guidelines

Virginia Tech Graduate School

The Professional MBA will not be seating a cohort for 2022

We encourage you to explore the new Online MBA program as an alternative, which is similar in structure and timeline to the PMBA, while incorporating new features like specialization tracks, optional study abroad, and career workshops.

REQUIRED MATERIALS

Transcripts and GPA

Include a scanned copy of your official college transcript with your online application, then arrange for an official copy to be sent to us after you receive an offer of admission. Applicants who attended more than one college and trasnferred credits towards the bachelor's degree must also submit copies of those transcripts. If you are a Virginia Tech alumnus, we will obtain your transcript internally.

The PMBA program requires a GPA of 3.0 or higher in the last 60 credit hours of your undergraduate coursework. If you have a master's degree, we will review that GPA as well. If you have less than a 3.0 GPA, options are available at the department's discretion.

GMAT or GRE

GMAT/GRE test scores serve as a benchmark to ensure students possess the critical thinking and analytical reasoning skills necessary for graduate study. Most applicants typically take 2-3 months to prepare for an exame to ensure they perform to the best of their ability.

For more information on the GMAT exam and testing locations, visit www.mba.com. For more information on the GRE, please visit www.takethegre.com

The GMAT code for the Professional MBA program at Virginia Tech is 53B-XS-66.

The GRE code for Virginia Tech is 5859.

GMAT/GRE Waiver: The Virginia Tech Professional MBA program will consider GMAT/GRE waiver requests. Please note that the waiver is not guaranteed, and your request will undergo evaluation by the admissions committee whose decisions are final. Please review our GMAT/GRE Waiver Request Form for more details. You may submit this waiver prior to your application.

Letters of Recommendation

Within the application, you will have a space to designate the name and email of the two people you would like to serve as your recommenders. The Professional MBA admissions team prefers professional contacts over academic contacts. Once you submit your application and pay the fee, your recommenders will be electronically notified on the steps they must complete on your behalf. Please note that the notification emails are often blocked by spam filters.

Resume

We require applicants to the Professional MBA program to have a minimum of three years post-undergraduate work experience. Applicants must submit a current resume detailing previous work history, including current position, company of employment, and dates of employment.

Essays

Applicants are required to write and submit two essays based on the two questions listed in the online application. Responses to each essay should adhere to the provided word limit. During the online application process, essays will be uploaded in one document. Applicant name should be included with the essays.

Application Fee

A $75 fee is required to submit an application. This fee is waived for active duty military personnel and veterans. Applications will be processed after the fee has been received.

Interviews

Applicants who present a completed application will be contacted to schedule a 30-minute evaluative interview with the Director of MBA Programs. All interviews currently take place via Zoom.

Seat Deposit

Admitted students will be required to pay a non-refundable $500 seat deposit. This $500 will reserve that student’s seat in the entering class and be applied towards fall semester tuition and fees. Information about the deposit and payment due date will be included with the acceptance letter.
